Touch Tanks meets Downeast 2007 – the National Marine Educators ConferenceFor Immediate Release (7/23/2007) A Touch Tank is a large, open top, aquarium that replicates the ocean floor and provides a habitat that allows long-term study of specimens. Touch Tanks are currently being used by scientific institutions to study the growth of salmon fry (baby salmon) in Alaska and observing lobster molting behavior in Maine. In addition, Touch Tanks are in use in numerous schools across the United States. “This is a great opportunity to introduce the Touch Tank, and other resources like the Dr. Touch Tanks Sea Life Program, directly to those who have a profound impact on our student’s understanding of our largest natural resource – the ocean,” said Mike Martin, executive director of Touch Tanks for Kids. Established in 2005, Touch Tanks for Kids is a globally focused 501(c)(3) non – profit organization dedicated to bringing awareness of marine life depletion to students through interactive activities.
